Can my unit be repaired

Would it be possible to recover the system firmware after accidental format that makes it invisible to Garmin Express and my computer? I have searched the internet and tried all suggested resetting options to no avail. Have asked Garmin about it but the only reply was a suggestion to buy a new device. The minimum price there was $139.00 so I figure if there's a cheaper solution, I'd like to take it.

Define accidental formatting of firmware. Ebay sells a used one for $6.99. Shop around online for used ones Whether they are eligible for lifetime updates may be addressed by Garmin support. An alternative might be if you have a cellphone with Google navigation (Android phones) or Apple Maps for iPhones. Cellphones with navigation eliminates stand alone electronic navigators. Before phones had 'hot spotting' (using cellphone as a wifi xmitter to other devices), I had a wifi (only) tablet and loaded a region to navigate without wifi. Cellphones with hot spotting enabled, allows tablets to wifi connect to a phone to use the larger screen. Tablets with 7 inch screens are better than small screens.
