@lillieo
How did you try to wipe it?
Did you do go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery. Under the Reset This PC heading, click Get Started and then Remove Everything?
If there were corrupt files or a virus on your friends machine this may be why it did not work.
The best way is to download the install file from Microsoft and choose the make USB flash drive install or words to that effect.

You will need a clean USB flash drive and another Windows 10 computer.
When the install asks for the Product Key just click near the bottom of the window on "I don't have a product key." As it is digitally registered Windows will just put it in automatically later on. This will probably work best if you connect the laptop to your router with an Ethernet cable. just incase there are Wi-Fi driver problem at first. If you don't have one they are about $10 at a local computer shop.
If any question - just ask.

Hi lillie, I am not very clear here. What were you actually trying to do and how did you do it? Reinstall Windows or just wipe the hard drive of everything - as in reformat?

@aactech I was trying to wipe it of everything since the laptop was being given to me from a friend. While wiping it, it needed to reinstall windows but it seems to have failed.
