Brother HL-L2380DW will not boot up.

LED display flashes blank white screen for a few seconds then shuts off briefly, cycles like this continually upon plugging into outlet. USB port connected to PC does not show any activity. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I've tried several variations of removing wall power and holding down power button.

Hi Matt,

Ran across a page that had a couple of suggestions that wouldn't have occurred to me, so they might be worth a try.

[SOLVED Brother Printer won't Turn On: How to Fix it|new_window=true]

Here's a summary of their suggestions.

  1. Disconnect and Connect the Power Cable
  2. Check the Power Cable and Printer’s Power Button
  3. Clean the Printer
  4. Check the Cartridge & Print Head
  5. Disconnect the USB

Read through items 3 and 4; there's a little more to them than the title would suggest.

I tried pretty much all of that. I removed everything that could be easily removed (tray and cartridge) and also the side panels and I didn’t see anything out of the ordinary, like a paper jam or any other blockage. No burnt electronics smell anywhere either. I’ll look more into cleaning the internal stuff and checking the print head.
