Home button doesn't work after logic board replacement

Hey there! I recently swapped out the logic board of my iPhone 8 plus, however the home button no longer functions. I knew going into this, touch id would be disabled. I never used it, so it wasn't a huge tradeoff for me. However, the home button is now completely unresponsive. One time when I turned the device on, it did say that the home button may need serviced. Would replacing the logic board completely break the home button? It doesn't look like there is any physical damage to it or the flex cable at all. Ideas?

Yeah, unless you swapped over the original button from the old phone, that button isn't going to work. Starting with the iPhone 7, the button isn't mechanical any longer; it's now a capacitive sensor which is tied to the Touch ID software key. As a result, neither the Touch ID nor the home button function will work when you replace the home button.

The repair industry has come up with a solution though; they make a 'universal' home button that converts it back to mechanical action, allowing it to work as a home button - no Touch ID, of course, but at least it will still click. Early versions actually connected via bluetooth of all things; you don't want one of those.

So in order to fix your problem you'll have to go buy an aftermarket universal style button. iFixit sells them; it appears the iPhone 7, 8 and plus variants all take the same button, so all you have to do is pick which color you want.
