How do I fix my shifter

Kelly Powell I am confused "will shift manually " "shifter in the steering column won't shift " reads like it shifts but it does not shift. Okay so its an F-150 with a Manual or Automatic Transmission ( I bet it's automatic ;-) What happens when you move your shifter? Do you feel any resistance etc.?

Its an automatic I've had to get underneath the truck to shift it there's no resistance on the shifter the previous owner said the truck needed a shift pin that the old one broke on him twice
