My guess is an intermittent mike may be the result of wire damage. You may have to carefully disassemble the headpiece containing the mike and wiring to examine for wire damage, especially at the point(s) of flex. If visible wire damage isn't seen then a continuity test to each wire of the mike is needed to determine which wire broke inside insulation. Soldering skills would be needed to repair wire damage. If you find and repair damage, try it first before reassembling everything, exercising mike movement to ensure the repair is complete.
