A description of the sound would be most helpful. Grinding? A sort of squealing or squeaky sound?

Hi

I would first take it off the ceiling and take it apart til you get to the motor and make sure the baring isn't stuck and spins freely

also while you are checking it I recommend putting some form of grease in it to help it spin

if that doesn't work if the motor has carbon brushes I would check them to see if they look heavy warn as this can cause this issue too
