If the "ghost tapping" started happening shortly after your screen was damaged, it is certainly caused by that. You can look for a screen replacement (I recommend getting one with a frame, it's way easier) on ebay/amazon/local stores for around 35-40 usd and that would almost certainly solve your problem, just make sure you follow proper repair procedures, such as discharging and disconnecting your battery. I also recommend looking for a guide on YouTube to decide if it looks easy enough for you to do or not. You'll also need a basic toolkit, the iFixit Essential Electronics Kit is a great option for this repair, though you can maybe a find a part on ebay that comes with the tools you need (though they will obviously be of much lower quality).
