Fan(s) Inside Cycling On And Off Before Running

Fan(s) inside starts in increments, sometimes barely clicking on and immediately off again. It will keep doing this for minutes sometimes, while each time it starts, it stays on longer for a fraction of a second. Finally it will start and seemingly run normally. Other times it will run normally after only a few false starts. Eventually though it always runs. The refrigerator always stays cool. It's been doing this for months. I thought it would just die.

I have an additional question... are there two fans inside this unit that are moving air, or just one? I know about the one inside the freezer. Is there a second one between the freezer side and the fridge side? I know there are vents in the top left of the fridge side where the cool air is coming in from the freezer. When I open the fridge door to listen when the fan is doing this start and stop thing, it sounds like there is a noise coming from behind these vents. If there is a second fan in there, then I believe it is starting and stopping at the same time as the one that's inside the back wall of the freezer. If that was the case, then that would probably mean that whatever is controlling the fans is the problem since they're both starting and stopping together.

Check that the evaporator fan in the freezer is not covered in ice due to an auto defrost problem and has trouble starting. If it is then it may be due to a faulty defrost heater, faulty defrost thermostat, blocked drain from under the evaporator unit to the evaporator pan under the freezer compartment or a faulty control board. The fan along with the compressor should be stopped when the refrigerator is in its defrost cycle. The defrost cycle usually occurs once every 8-10 hours (don't know exactly for your model but most brands are within this range) and lasts for about 20 minutes. Only mentioning this because if there is a problem with the defrost then it may be the board if the other checks are OK

Also usually with most refrigerators the fan should stop when a door (either door) is opened and start again when the door is closed so as to not blow the cold air out the door.

If the fan is not iced up check that the refrigerator door switch is OK by manually operating/releasing it to see if the light turns off and on and also if the fan turns on and off.

Looking at the parts diagrams for the model from this supplier there is only the one fan inside the compartments i.e the evaporator fan inside the freezer compartment. The cover sheet for the model shows that the service data sheet is 240389613.

Looking at that, the power for the evaporator fan in the freezer is controlled by the Adaptive Defrost Control board (part # 5303918476. Note: Read the information in the Description

If the initial test suggestions above are OK you may have to check the power coming from the board for the evaporator fan to see if it is constant when it should be. If it is OK at the board but intermittent at the fan you may have to check the wiring connection path between the two. The service data sheet should be of some help, giving wire colours but unfortunately no connector locations. Be safety aware if you have to do this as the fan operates at 120V AC
