CFD-510 Cassette belt repair help

Hello!

I'm sorry the question says CFD-8, but the site doesn't have the 510 in its database.

I've been trying to fix an old CFD-510 Sony Boombox I found a while ago, everything else works pretty great, but the cassette deck needs a new belt. This is easier said than done, as the idiot who had it before me sealed the access points with a resin. After a LOT of rubbing alcohol later, I can peel back the access point, but there are things in the way, and I can't figure out how to put the belt in. Would anyone here have any idea on how to help?

@tothemax04 since we do not know what your resin situation looks like I would suggest that you try to use the SM. The CFD-510 and the CFD-440 manuals are needed, since they are almost the same. Information not in the 510 manual will be in the 440 manual. Hope this gets your Boombox going again. Sony CFD510 SMSony CFD 510 Supp SmSony CFD 440 SM

Thank you so much, this is amazing!

If you wouldn't mind me asking one additional question, something I forgot to mention, what do you do if the tape belt that was in there previously has liquefied into tar?

@tothemax04 just keep on cleaning the belt pulleys with some isopropyl alcohol and cotton swabs. Cleaning things like that is most often the biggest challenge and necessity for a lasting repair. Sounds like you already have a tough job with the resin etc. Keep on picking away at it and keep this device out of the landfill. It may take some time and work but ultimately it will benefit all of us.

Thanks so much for this question and answer. My 18 year old son recently picked up the same model (Sony CFD-510) from the local thrift store and after he got it home realized neither the cassette deck or CD player work. I helped him take it apart and found, like in the original question, the two belts on the tape deck were done for.

We temporarily replaced them with rubber bands (don't judge me 😂) to see if that was the only issue with the deck (The recordable cassette deck is the main reason he bought this) and then I began searching for the manual and landed here. Does anyone know if it's possible to source the proper little belts for a permanent fix?

Also, any idea what the issue with the cd player could be? When he puts a cd in and closes the lid it spins for about five seconds and then stops. Same when trying to play tracks.
