Why can I turn my iPod on but can’t swipe?

I turn on my Ipod touch 5th gen (Model No. A1421), it turns on, charges, home button works, power button works but yet when i swipe it just doesn’t work and it’s not a case of it freezing because i’ve tried the restart method many times. It seems like its a touch sensor problem or something like that, what would it be that i’d have to replace/fix?

Any history with the device?

Hi, sorry i’m not sure what history but i assume you’d like just some background history of the device, if not im happy to answer any questions but hopefully this helps.

I got it when it was the latest generation, had it a couple years already before the screen got heavily smashed. I turned it on one day, it all loaded fine just like it does today, apple logo to the wallpaper and clock and then i went to swipe to put in my password and it just wouldn’t swipe, so i restarted multiple times and it just wasn’t swiping which left me shocked as it had been working for months prior to it stopping. Only reasonable thing i can think of is too much water and has found it’s way in and damaged a component.

I hope this helps, thanks
