The Nintendo Switch is a handheld game console that can be played on the TV via a docking station, or on the go. Released March 3rd, 2017.

After I swapped game card reader, touchscreen goes crazy clicking

After I swapped the game card reader, when I powered the switch back up the switch constantly moved and clicked randomly. Basically it was unusable. But it does work when I put it in the dock and use it on a tv. Any thoughts what happened?

Should I take out the new game card reader and try to reinstall or order another game card reader(something I don’t want to do)

I would verify all of the connections and ribbon cables going to the game card reader. If everything looks good, you will probably have to order a new reader unfortunately. If you bought it from iFixit, you might be able to return it if you ordered recently.

I am having this exact same problem, and the repair shop that I took my switch to had the same issue with multiple game card readers that they tried. When I install the iFixit game card reader, the switch will read game cards, but the touchscreen goes crazy. I swap back to my original one, and the touchscreen works fine, but the game card reader doesn't work. I tried pulling and reinserting the touchscreen digitizer cable multiple times, same result.

For now I ended up just not connecting the touchscreen digitizer (ribbon cable on the left) and connecting only the game card reader cable. The switch works fine, but no touchscreen, which is fine because I only want my kids using it in the dock anyway.

Hi All!

Sorry for replying on a old thread, but just FYI:

There are different versions out there for the game card reader. The issue you are describing is because you probably have the wrong (version) game card reader installed.

First, is it working now? If it is it could have been a software bug. If not, try turning it off and on again.

Yes it works. I have turned it on and off a bunch of times. Checked updates and did a factory reset with no luck.

Oh ok… I don't really know what to do then sorry.

The digitizer connects through the game card slot, so either the connection between the game card slot and the board is bad, the connection for the digitizer ribbon is bad, the game card slot is faulty or the digitizer ribbon is damaged.
