Can't one finger open lid after staingate removal

Hi there

Every so often when I close my computer and put it in my bag and take it back out, I am unable to one finger open the display. When I lift my finger it lifts the whole computer off of the desk. I have tried using a cloth with water to clean the rubber gasket around the screen but that didn’t seem to help. Does anybody have some other ideas on how I can fix this? This started to happen after I did the delimitation treatment and I used Clorox wipes and baby wipes onto the display to peel off the anti glare coating.

What did the Tin-Man tried to say when Dorothy found him on her travels?

Your hinges have rusted up from the spillage onto them so the clutch springs are binding. Follow this guides steps to Step-5 then jump down to Step-11 as we need only to get to the hinges not take the display off MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2015 Display Assembly Replacement

Now as you discovered going to far has its Consequences! So lets not create new ones! Get a can of WD40 and carefully spray the oil into a small container (I use the Red cap my self) making a small puddle of oil then slightly damping a cotton swab (Q-Tip) A little goes a long way here! Wipe across the hinge pin on both sides.

@danj I’m not entirely sure it’s the hinges because if I open and close it when I broke the seal it one finger opens just fine. It’s when I stack something on top of the computer and re open the lid is when it gets stuck. If I one finger open it’s hard to open but if I stick two of my fingernails inside the top left and right side of the display I am able to open the computer just fine so I don’t think it’s the hinges but more of the gasket.

@jimmysofat6864 - It the rubber dust seal is clean and not sticky then this is the issue. Give it a try its not overly hard to get to and fix.

If the rubber is sticky use a little of WD40 on a paper towel to wipe it down (again it doesn't take much!) Less is more!
