Check if the idler pulley is OK and is exerting enough tension on the drive belt. Also check if the drive belt is OK i.e. no cracks, splits etc.

(Note: your Kenmore combo unit is either a rebadged Frigidaire unit or a made to order unit for Sears by Frigidaire, not sure which, that’s why the part will appear as a Frigidaire/Electrolux part in the search results).
Bit confused when you say “It also stops advancing the timer. If I let it go it will finish…..”. Does the timer start up again or what happens to make it finish the complete wash/rinse/spin cycle and not continue doing whatever where it’s stopped at? Does it stop in the spin section of the washing cycle, with no spinning action?

My washer agitates, rinses, drains and does not shut off unless you open the lid with the timer in off position. It will not spin at all.
