27'' iMac 2010 Backlight Failure

The backlight on my 27’’ iMac 2010 is slowly dying. Getting a little more dim every week, and I can see dark spots between the backlight “bulbs(?). I don’t have the tools or the skills to do the soldiering like some people recommend. Should I try to replace the display or does the inverter board solve this issue? How can I tell if it’s the inverter board or the literal backlight strip?
Also does a 2011 display work in a 2010 machine?

Most likely the LED bar connection or a few LED have died and often the backside also gets darkened

Thanks so much, Dan. Wish the news was better, but I appreciate your expertise. Would a 2011 display work in a 2010? I ask because I found a cheap one in my area.

@daevrojn - There are some differences. It will take some work to convert it.
