@paulabridge I just went through a similar situation with my son's microwave. In that case it turned out to be a case where the position of two of the switches got reversed so the sequencing was now wrong and causing the fuse to blow when the door was opened while running.

I would suggest you look carefully at the sequencing. One switch will generally open before the others, so you'll need to check the switches themselves for any kind of gummy residues that could be causing them to operate slowly or check the mechanical parts that activate the switches for worn or bent parts that would again allow the switches to work out of sequence.

Thank you, Jerry. My son-in-law did a thorough search of the switches and found them to be defective (in operation), as you suggested. I did some looking on Amazon and found exactly what we needed for $9.99 and they arrived in 2 days. Along with a 20 amp fuse ($6.00 for two) my microwave is running perfect. We even tested it by pulling the door open during a cooking cycle, may times. Not one issue with arcing, etc. I truly appreciate your dadibrokeit advice, you're a blessing to us.

Thank you so much.

@paulabridge

Just curious how you could tell if the switch contacts were arcing or not as they're enclosed in a case?

This (see 1st image) is what eventually occurs to the switch contacts if the door is opened every time over a period of time, whilst the oven is still operating.

The door interlocks are a safety feature designed to shut down the oven if the door is opened during operation, to prevent harmful microwave radiation escaping from the oven cavity.

To prevent arcing which eventually causes contact migration to occur which blows the fuse, the control panel buttons i.e. stop or pause should be used and then the door opened. That's what they're there for.

Hi @jlee0000 ,

Here’s a link showing the location of the fuse in your oven (see Item#24).

If the fuse is blown, there is always a reason for this as they do not rupture of their own accord, so the microwave will have to be tested to find out why this occurred. Otherwise you may find that the replacement fuse will also blow when you try using the oven.

Be safety aware when working in microwave ovens. The HV capacitor can store >6000V DC for months, even if the power has been disconnected for this length of time. This amount of voltage can seriously injure you. The HV capacitor needs to be correctly discharged as soon as it can be accessed after the oven’s cover has been removed and before any further work is done inside the oven. If you don’t know what you’re doing, then don’t do it! Call a reputable, professional appliance repair service.

We have this microwave, it blows a fuse from "arching" as you open the door while still in the process of heating.

I have replaced our fuse, 3 times, we learned that the clips in the door effect the arc when the power is still running. As the homeowner, we now press "stop" before attempting to open the door.

However, a guest in our home did it today, and now the fuse is blown again.

What a hassle. The entire microwave needs to come out of the unit, disassembled, and once the fuse is located, be replaced. It's not an easy task, at all.
