I am new to fixing phones and could not find a good answer to this. I would like to know if iOpeners are the way to go or if I could go without one.

if you’re opening a shop or repairing phones is a serious side gig, then i agree with the recommendation of a temperature controlled heating plate. the precision, certainty and speed will definitely be more efficient.
since i’m doing rehabs purely as a hobby, i like to multi-purpose tools that i already have. i use a heat gun that i originally purchased for shrink tubing and paint stripping, although a regular hair dryer will work fine, you just need to learn how much heat to apply to get the adhesives to loosen up.
if you really want something like the iOpener, there are plenty of DIY how-to’s on youtube that would seem to work pretty well.

Hi @mikedecamp,
It might depend on how much you’re prepared to outlay.
You would certainly need something to remove the screen from the case and using hair dryers would be too problematical.
iOpeners are good if you’re not doing too many but a better option if your contemplating doing a lot of repairs is to get a temperature controlled heat plate or hot air gun.
Depends on you’re preferences. Just my view.
