Headphones have static noise when plugged into adapter

I recently got a Samsung S20 fe. Since my previous phone had a headphone jack, I only have wired headphones, so I ended up getting an adapter so I can still use them. The problem is that when I try to use the headphones while connected to the adapter, I hear a static noise in the background. I tested the adapter with a different pair of wired headphones and there was no static sound. The headphones also work just fine when connected to my laptop. So it seems to be some bad interaction between these specific headphones and the adapter. I’m wondering if it’s fixable at all or if maybe a different adapter would work with these headphones. The one I have is just a cheap one from Walmart but it works with everything else alright.

What other devices does this adapter (the one you got from Walmart) work with? Is there a label on the box like passive or active?

@andrewsawesome It works with the aux cord in my car as well as connected to a pair of over the ear headphones. The box doesn't say anything like passive or active as far as I can see. This is the link to the one I bought if that's helpful: https://www.walmart.com/ip/onn-Auxiliary...
