FYI - Your system can support a newer OS release you can go upto Mojave 10.14.x without any problems, I would stick with that. You can directly download it from here How to get old versions of macOS and if you have a 32GB USB thumb drive you can create a bootable OS installer to save time and have as a backup! First format the drive to GUID and a Journaled file system, then follow this guide How to create a bootable macOS Mojave installer drive

Did you reformat the hard drive before running the installer?

@burnsclan

1. Shut down your Mac.

2. Press the power button, then immediately start holding Command+R.

3. Keep holding Command+R until you see a window that says "MacOS Utilities".

4. Double-Click on "Disk Utility"

5. In the Disk Utility window, click View>Show All Devices.

6. Select your Disk and click Erase or Format.

7. Format the disk as MacOS Extended(Journaled).

8. Shut down your computer.

@burnsclan On that screen, select "121.33 GB Apple SSD..." and click erase or format(you might need to mount/unmount the drive). Choose MacOS Extended as the format. After that, click "enable journaling" if it's not greyed out.
