iPhone 7 random reboot behavior

i have an iphone7 with a bad IMEI so i just use as a wifi/tethered device to play games on. I replaced the battery about a year ago.
recently it's been acting a bit weird. all of a sudden it will just show the apple logo and reboot. when it shows the passcode screen, i see only 2% battery, but as soon as i plug in a charger it jumps to 80% (or whatever it was at when it rebooted).
IOS battery health says 100% capacity.
3uTools says 100% capacity and 80 charge cycles.

just wondering if anyone's seen this kind of random reboot weirdness? it's worked pretty much perfectly for well over a year, but rebooted at least 4 times in the last 24 hour.
it hasn't been opened since the battery was replaced.

thanks for any advice.

Mostly its battery issue as you said you have changed it in the past. If the issue still remain after replacing the battery, the next step is to try a charging port. If this wont fix the issue then its logic board issue (Charging IC). I hope this helps

if it's a bad battery, wouldn't it have manifested itself sooner than 1+ year of usage?

i can definitely try another battery when i get back after the Thanksgiving holiday.

i can also try a different charging port (provided the second hand swap-out is good and free of issues).

the phone hasn't been subjected to any impacts, water exposure, excessive hot or cold temperatures since i acquired it. can the charging IC on the mobo just "go bad" over time?

@beekerc Charging IC’s become faulty from using cheap cables and from liquid damage they just don’t go bad over time.

@imicrosoldering good to know

no water damage in this case.

cables could be a factor. i don't use apple cables all the time, but i don't use the cheap, cheap cables.

definitely will tuck this away for reference.

Thank you.

turns out it was battery swell.

wiped the phone, reloaded from backup - no change.
upgraded to latest IOS and loaded apps from fresh. seemed okay for a couple of days.
as soon as i put the case back on it started up again.
as i was removing the case, i saw some back-light leakage on the side, between the screen and back case, about a 3cm long gap.
the battery was 4.85mm thick at the widest point (a normal, new battery is 3.25mm)

thanks to all for the input and advice
