A new version of the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 was announced in February 2019, with Android 9.0 Pie (upgradable to Android 10), the Exynos 7904 chipset and an IPS display with an unchanged resolution. The rear flash is removed, S-Pen support is dropped and the battery is smaller, while the front camera is upgraded to 5 MP and the speakers are now stereo. Models numbers: SM-T515 & SM-T510.

Need help with removing back panel

Hi, I have a 2019 Galaxy Tab A SM-T510 NZKFDBT and I want to replace the headphone port as it is starting to go.

I have tried using the plastic pry tools in my ifixit kit, plus some other plastic pry tools I have, to pry off the back cover. I have done this by inserting between the edge of the front bezel (not the glass) and the back cover. The ifixit guide, which is for an older model, makes this sound easy.

It is really hard to insert the tools, I have managed to get several tools inserted along an edge, but cannot get round the corner. The back is so stiff it shows no sign of budging and I don’t want to break it.

I have seen one internet disassembly guide for this model which showed the screen being removed by softening the adhesive with heat and slicing under the glass, but I need to re-use the glass panel so I prefer not to do it that way.

Any ideas or suggestions please, am I going about this the right way ?

Oh, I see. On this model the bezel is screwed to the back so you have to go in from the front, by removing the glass. Only then can you undo the screws and remove the back cover. I’ll need to get a new adhesive to re-fit the screen before I begin.
