Does a SSD replacement kit fix SMART issues?

I get SMART notices when trying to upgrade a late 2014 Mac mini as above to Monterey. That is, it won’t upgrade, because the installer reports SMART problems. (Backup, replace the drive etc.)

If I replace the SSD things, will that fix the SMART issues?

Yes, replacing the Hard Drive/Solid State drive with a new one should fix any SMART-related errors you are having.

Thank you for your reply. I assumed it was so, but wanted to make certain before embarking on such a venture.

Hello again - thanks again for your advice. I ended up finding a local business (in Thailand, can you imagine!) which specializes in Mac repairs and upgrades. They did the whole 1TB upgrade for 6500baht (=$195) including labour. And did it the same day.
