You're going to have to open the door up. Sounds like something slipped off inside.

Suz Stewart, it is possible that the glass came of the regulator lift plate. As was already commented you will have to remove the trim from the door and take a look at the regulator etc. Here is the part of the service manual that deals with the window glass and the door panels and should help you with your repair. It sounds like regulator is bad. You will have to take the door panel off and replace the regulator.
