iPod Touch stuck in recovery mode

My iPod Touch was functioning perfectly fine until it ran out of battery. When I charged it, it quickly booted into recovery mode. I don’t want to restore since I have data on it. Is there anyway to get out of recovery mode without losing my data? (iOS 5.1.1)

Can you shut down the iPod Touch by pressing and holding the power button?

Yes I can power it off but if I were to boot it back up it still goes into recovery mode. @andrewsawesome

@michaelns03 If you plug it into a computer with iTunes, do you get the message "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes"?

@andrewsawesome Yes but I don’t want to restore it since it has valuable data.

@michaelns03 Try this: while keeping the computer connected, hold down the home and power buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds.
