Overheated and then possibly died

It kept overheating while using wifi in my truck. With the power source it warmed up but was still tolerable.

The MacFanControl app helped for a while but then it said I had to have OS-X 10.12 to use it. Which I don’t have. It recently got too hot so I shut it down and the next day it wouldn’t come on at all. Just black screen.

The charger also will not show the charging light when I plug that in. Have I killed it?

Any suggestions or good replacements for sale. I’m not too techy but I have used this site to open up the back and replace the hard drive, battery and fan even thought I don’t speak tech speak.

Any help appreciated. Thank you , MIchael

Lets first check the MagSafe cable and the connector for any damage, Is the cable smooth and not have any bunching up or cuts? If it does you’ll likely need a new charger.

Next look at the connectors both the cable end and the systems. Are the contacts clean and shiny is the socket plastic clean of dirt buildup? Use a cotton Swab (Q-Tip) dampened with isopropyl alcohol to scrub the surfaces and use a fresh pink pencil eraser (soft) to clean the contacts. Are the pins in the cable aligned correctly the middle pin will be not as high. If either fails to get clean or the pins are not aligned then again time for a new charger.

The chargers MagSafe connector LED needs to offer either an Amber or Green light when plugged in. If it doesn’t I would try another charger make sure you get the correct one for your system. And stick wit a Real Apple unit as the knockoffs can kill your system or worse!

Here’s the correct charger for your system: Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter (for MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro)

The smaller cable coming out of the charger was fraying where it came out so I put tape on it and it was after that that it didn’t work. So I’ll untape it and diddle around with it. Your answer is helpful, thank you. M.
