Laptop screen is black, can anyone help?

I dropped my laptop now the screen is black. It still powers up and sounds like the hardrive is spinning. I tried connecting it to an external monitor through the dvi and did not work. Can anyone help?

Oh ouch. If connecting to an external monitor didn't work, things could either be very bad, or not so much. If no external monitor is working, it usually means that your graphics card some how got messed up, instead of you actually breaking your LCD screen.

I'm pretty sure the graphics card is soldered on for your laptop, so while you don't want to take everything out, you might try lifting up the top of your case, following this guide, and see if anything is out of place or disconnected.

A dropped computer could easily have hard drive problems--have you tried booting with your system disk and running disk repair? Nat's suggestion about looking for a disconnected cable is certainly something you would want to do. Good luck Ralph
