@anorack yes that should work since both drives are ATA interface etc. You may need to change the firmware so. Your iPod may or may not recognize the HDD in the beginning due to firmware issues.

Yes, but the iPod might not be able to sync to a computer via FireWire. (It will still charge just fine, but you’ll have to use USB to sync it, which most people already do.)
