UE Megaboom 3 bass sounds garbage?

I have a UE MegaBoom 3, and a JBL Charge 4.

My iPhone uses R&B as the equaliser.

The Charge 4 takes every song I throw at it like a champ. The bass is fine, and slightly reduces if it’s too loud.

The UE MegaBoom 3 however is making a ‘thunk’ sound for its bass when the volume is above 50%.

I’ve used smaller BT Speakers, like the Dell ad211, and when the bass is roughly 70%, it makes the same weird ‘thunk’ sound with the bass.. and it sounds terrible. However this is a very old speaker.. 10 years or so.

Could anyone else test for me to see if they can reproduce the issue?

If this cannot be reproduced, have I got a bad UE Megaboom 3 speaker?

iPhone EQ = R&B

Song: Flawless - The Ones.

Alternatively, use this song.

I’d ask on the Ultimate Ears reddit, however they only have one moderator or something, and it’s closed to invitation only and there hasn’t been a post for literally 30 days. The slash is basically dead.

Ultimate Ears reddit site is open to anyone with a Google account, you'll need to make an account to post anything there (no different than here on iFixit), here Google is the owner of reddit site.

I doubt anyone here will be able to help you. Maybe buying another unit (which you’ll return afterwards) is the best way to test yours out in a side by side comparison.

I have two Boom2 units which I use in a stereo pair that offer acceptable bass. maybe you’re expecting to much from this speaker.

I mean, given you own two Boom speakers, could YOU try do the text exercise to see if you can reproduce the problem?

It'd mean so much to me. :<

@Sumona Florence - I did and I don't have a problem when its within normal volume (about 2/3rds or lower) If I go the the max its just trashy. But that's true with any of these smaller speakers as they just don't have the full range a proper set of speakers have. I have a set of Bose 501 which deliver much better bass. But they are even limited too!

Bit late to reply but, turns out what I'm hearing is 'Bass Clipping' because my R&B EQ setting is demanding too much at 50% volume and higher which is a shame. Wish it automatically compensated like the JBL Charge 4 did.
