The March 2015 update of Apple's 13" MacBook Pro Retina Display, model A1502, features fifth-generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors and introduces the Force Touch trackpad.

Magsafe LED not turning on, not charging

Hello! I have a Macbook without led on the charger, i have changed the battery and its brand new, still nothing.

The charger is giving power, tested.

So i went trough some troubleshooting and measured some voltages:

U7001:

Pin 5: 3.40V

Pin 4: 0V

Pin 3: GND working

Pin 2: 0V

Pin 1: 0V

U7000:

Pin 5: ///

Pin 4: ///

Pin 3: ///

Pin 2: GND working

Pin 1: 0V

C7000

Giving continuity if power is conencted, no continuity if no power is connected

Is there anything else i should be looking for? Thank you for replies!

Have you tried resetting the SMC? https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295 Also, what is the condition of the MagSafe port, do you see any burnt pins or debris?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@zpl I also changed Magsafe port, just to be sure everything was new.

I cant reset SMC because keyboard isn't working, is there any other way to do it?

What is you motherboard number (820-XXXX)?

@honakrisi it's 820-4924 a a1502

I take it you get the charger voltage on the output of the fuse?

If you measure 0V on pins 1 and 2 on U7001, that means your SMC_BC_ACOK input is missing therefore there is nothing powering your U7000.

Check pin 14 on U7100 (ISL6259). That is CHGR_ACOK which becomes SMC_BC_ACOK. I am guessing it will be 0V. You may have an issue with the current sensing resistors R7120/21/22.

You just found the problem. If 16.5V (charger voltage) is present on the first resistor’s pin 1 and then 0V then something is not working correctly. How do those resistors look? Are they corroded/burnt/have holes in them? You can measure their resistance too R7110 is 68.1KOhm and R7111 is 21.5kOhm.

UPDATE 06/03/2021

The 0Ohm reading could mean 3 things:

  1. R7111 is bad and stopped working as a voltage divider
  2. C7111 is a faulty capacitor and pulling the rail to ground
  3. U7100 is bad and pulling it to ground.

If you have the means to de-solder these components one by one to see if you get a higher resistance to ground on pin 3, do it. I attached an image of reference voltages and highlighted the possible faulty components. I would look for corrosion or damage on C7111 first.

They appear to be in a good condition, nothing strange.

R7710 is showing 64.1k Ohms, R7111 is giving 0Ohms, apparently

Is there a site where i can buy these parts?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Yes, you can find them on eBay. The size for this resistor and capacitor is 0402 just so you can order the correct ones. The IC itself should be on as well. Just search for ISL6259.
