I have a customer with this Yoga 14 that is not detecting the SSD at all. I pulled the drive and plug it in to my computer, and it loaded with no issues at all. I checked the connection for corrosion and damage and there appears to be none. anyone else with this issue?

Check in BIOS > Startup > Boot and see if there is a HDD0 listing for the boot order.
If it is there try highlighting it (select it) and check if it shows up in a disabled list on the screen. If so enable it. I think that you do this by pressing Shift + 1 (the ! key) although I’m not 100% sure with your model that this is how to do it.
Hopefully this will restore the HDD in BIOS. When it has been disabled in the boot order it is no longer available to BIOS. This feature is for when people wish to use an external drive only and not have an internal HDD

those instructions were spot on. both hdd0 and hdd1 are shown in the boot order. also, pci lan is shown with an arrow to the left of it. no explanation of what it means.
Does the arrow to the left of the pci-lan entry move if you alter the boot priority?
I've never seen an arrow there before (not that this means much as I don't know if the BIOS in your model is the exactly the same;-) Perhaps it indicates which is #1 in the boot order although usually it is sequential down the list.
If the HDDs were disabled then perhaps the laptop was being used as a network PC and booting from the network connection
it just shows options for ipv4 and ipv6
Looks like you can't disable pci-lan in the boot order and may have to do it in the BIOS > Config > network settings but only if you want to.
But it should make no difference as if the HDDs are detected it should boot from them first if there is a bootable HDD installed and even if the pci-lan was first option in the boot order it should step over it once it detected that there was no network device with boot instructions connected and move onto the next in the boot priority list see BIOS > Startup > Network Boot for boot priority
@jayeff so what do you suspect the issue to be? motherboard? it looks like i've exhausted everything else. there's little known about it online too.

Did you install the SSD with a 7mm to 9.5mm adapter (supplier example only)?
The spacer is required so that the SSD is in the correct position and connects securely to the sata port in the laptop. Usually an SSD is only 7mm and it is sitting in a drive bay designed for a 9.5mm HDD

Have you tried another known working SSD in the laptop to check if the sata port is OK and it is recognized at least in BIOS?

Maybe try a HDD instead.
That way you can listen for it to spin up when the laptop is turned on. That way at least you know power is being supplied to the HDD.
If you can't hear a HDD spin up (or feel the vibrations of it spinning) then what is the motherboard's board number? (printed on motherboard itself it might be a Wistron motherboard but the model number and version is important e.g. Wistron LCL-1xxxx?)
You may have to get the schematics for the motherboard to find out why there is no power to the HDD.
If there is power to the HDD it may be a sata controller issue
