Is the digitizer part of the lcd screen or separate?

The bottom part of the touch screen doesn't function after I dropped it which is the most irritating spot as that is where the button for the music is! I want to fix it and I was just wondering if the digitizer is separate from the lcd or all in one. If it is separate, can I use a digitizer from an iPhone 4?

Ariel, they are separate. However, I do like to replace the digitizer and the midframe section as a unit. You can purchase those are numerous place online. It makes the job a lot easier and a lot less frustrating. It is a bit of a PITA to separate the digitizer from the midsection. Hope this helps. Anyhow, the iPhone 4 digitizer is NOT compatible. Good Luck.
