My earpiece speaker is barely working - need to use speaker phone - no

my earpiece speaker is very low - while using speaker phone i noticed the left loudspeaker is out. Is there such a thing as a left loudspeaker? The parts list just shows one loudspeaker. is that for both? thank you

Hi,

As you can see in the repair guide: iPhone XR Lower Speaker Replacement there is only one speaker assembly in the phone which is located on the bottom right while looking at the screen. So it’s very normal that you’re not hearing much sound from the left grill since it will not be directly coming from a speaker in that location. Most iPhones are built with only one speaker assembly.

Hope this helps.

you have to clean the ear speaker with alcohol and what looks like a toothbrush. the ear speaker hardly ever breaks. it is mainly due to dirt on the grill of the speaker when it is in your pocket, for example

Had the same issue, thought about getting a replacement ear piece. However, I tried cleaning like samim suggested. It improved a little. After that I startet playing around with settings in Sounds/Haptics as well as Accessibility and Music/Soundcheck Toggled everything sound related on and off, turned everything to max. Nothing. Restarted. Still no improvement.

Went through those settings again and voila! the sound is back as expected. I can't pin point which step brought the sound level back to normal, but somewhere between those steps it did happen. It was clearly a software issue. Maybe this helps someone else.
