Timer backs up 2 minutes and starts again in spin

Maytag mvwb725bwd…5 years old…when it picks up speed at beginning of spin cycle i hear 3 loud bumps. (like a breaking mechanism) stops at 6 mins…backs up to 8 minutes and does it over and over.

Hi @dan2155,

Don’t know the answer but according to this supplier, the manufacturer’s part # for the tech sheet isW10403990. Sometimes the tech sheet can also be found in a plastic sleeve taped inside the machine somewhere if you wish to confirm that it is the correct one

Try running the diagnostics as described in the guide and check if you can narrow the problem down a bit by the results shown from the various tests.

There is a sensor shown as part #20 -Motor, basket and Tub parts so maybe performing the Rotor Position Sensor test as described on p.2 of the guide would be worth trying first of all.

If the sensor is faulty the tub may be beginning to spin too fast (or not being controlled anyway) and has to be braked and then perhaps it tries again and again. This is only conjecture on my part and maybe is completely wrong. ;-)

If it is determined that the sensor is the problem, just search online for WPW10178988 to find suppliers that suit you best.

Hopefully a start
