TV all of a sudden not working in one room; works in others.

My TV worked fine yesterday morning. Left for about an hour came back and the TV was on (not shocking as my Vizio turns on by itself all the time) but it was flickering between 2 black screens and has a little white line towards the top. Can't get any menu up or even shut the TV off without unplugging.

Now comes the confusing part. The TV works in other rooms. Even plugged into the normal outlet I have it plugged into. If I have the TV just through the doorway to the next room It works. But if I then move it just through the door to the tv stand in the living room it starts flickering (see video below) ++http://imgur.com/a/pg9AeeA++

I have even tried another TV (another vizio) in the same spot and while it doesn't do the exact same thing. It either does it's own flickering or I can get it on and connected to the cable but then I can't get the remote to work.

Anyone have any ideas? It's obviously not the outlet...or the cable box/wires. It really seems like it's this room! But nothing changed in that hour I was gone haha

I’ve just had what seems like a very similar problem with my Samsung TV. Rapidly turning on and off. Changed the TV with another Samsung. Same problem. Every other appliance in the room was working fine so I ruled out an electrical problem.

If I moved it to another room it worked again. If I stood in front of it, it worked again.

Long story short, it was the Amazon fire stick remote which had gone crazy and was sending a signal to turn on/off the TV in rapid succession. Took out the batteries from the remote and the TV was fine after that.

Is it possible that in the room in which the TV doesn’t work you have one remote which could be causing a similar problem? Or maybe another device that communicates to the TV and sends it a signal to turn off/on?

Oh my God I went and bought a new TV last night same problem was messing around all last night. I thought it had to be the fire stick or the cable box so I unplugged everything with a wifi signal in the whole house.NEVER THOUGHT OF THE REMOTE. had no idea who to even call looked on here today you're a life saver. As soon as I pulled the batteries from fire stick remote its gone.

Interesting. I woke up the next morning(after 2 days of this) and it was all of a sudden fine. Knock on wood it's been fine since.

Exactly the same issue with Philips TV in living room. Screen suddenly started flashing and red light flickering. Moved it to another room - no issue. But the minute the TV was in proximity of living room, it started flashing on and off. I'd ruled out remotes early on because all of them were sitting out in the open i.e. not got buttons depressed accidentally. Finally did another google search and rather than focussing on dodgy power supplies (a likely cause of flashing red lights for Philips), looked instead for "tv works in one room but not another" and found your post. Grabbed the fire 4K remote, took out the batteries and problem solved. *Many thanks* for providing the solution.

Thanks for two hours my tv kept turning on and off. Once I took the batteries out the fire stick it stopped turning on and off

Thank you!!!!!! All day we’ve rang LG, Richer Sounds and been on google and couldn’t find an answer, engineer coming out on Tuesday....brought our bedroom tv downstairs whilst we’re waiting and the same happened! Totally different tv! Tried them both upstairs out of interest as it was way too much of a coincidence for two TVs to go on the blink at the same time and they BOTH worked perfectly. Back to google, changed my search phrase and found this thread, took batteries out of firestick remote and tv working properly! Saved us a fortune for two new TVs!

Never had this problem with xfinity. Seems unique to AT & T. Problem in both rooms at different times. Very frustrating. Think that when our year is up we will be back with xfinity.

It is not obvious to me that “it is not a cable problem”. That is exactly what it looks like to me or at worst problem with the HDMI socket of the TV or the connections boards etc. Also the TV turning itself on is totally abnormal as well.

An update since I posted: I moved the tv to the room where it works and did a factory reset. I was able to get it on and move it back to the tv stand. It was on and working for a few minutes then shut off and started in a reboot loop. Tried unplugging and holding down the power button as everyone suggests for that problem. Didn't work. Moved it back to the other room (plugged in to the same outlet as before) and it works. I brought back down my other tv from upstairs and it is also in a reboot loop when I plug it in but I'm able to turn it on via my cable remote. Here comes the weird part. It stays on running normally (except I'm not able to really do much via the remote) but as soon as I move a few steps to the right it starts the boot loop. I can move backwards and around the room and it's fine but as soon as I get to that spot it starts boot looping.

Oh and the turning itself on thing has happened since I got the TV. I googled it then and found a bunch of posts about VIZIO's doing that as they are sending updates.

I just bought a Vizio to replace a Vizio that I had for 10 years in my bedroom. The problem you describe is the same problem I have had with Vizios, including the old TV. I will try a Samsung TV tomorrow in my bedroom and see whether it's a Vizio issue. I had a cable serviceman come out today, and after an hour of testing, we ruled out it's a cable issue. If the Samsung does not operate where the Vizios had not, it might be some odd electrical issue, and I'll need to call in an electrician.
