GPS signal lost after wifi/bluetooth antenna replacement

Hello everyone,

I just replaced my wifi/bluetooth antenna in my iPhone 6S Plus, wifi and bluetooth work great now. However, I since then lost the GPS signal.

It says “No GPS. Showing approximate location”.

I tried to update the OS, reset network settings, check location settings… none of these worked. Should I look inside again? What could it be?

Thank you very much !

hello KasDing,

I know from experience that such problems have a different origin than you think. But first, a few questions:

are you sure it worked before wifi replacement? have you used an ultrasonic cleaner for this motherboard? is there any damage to the radio part of the motherboard (bottom cover next to the battery port)? When the phone is on - does it respond to the rotation of the screen? does/how does the compass work? does/how does a spirit level work? As you can see, there are many questions, because the gps loop is connected with most of the functionalities, from the camera to the baseband and ending. One more question remains: are you sure you soldered the new wifi chip correctly? I have a lot of work with motherboards on which basic mistakes were made by inexperienced technicians or people simply too fast for microelectronics.

hint: wifi to orientate in three-dimensional space, ic chip needs confirmation with "oscar_context_A" and "oscar_context_B" on fields 32 and 33 of the wifi chip. Are you sure you have this connection after replacement?

  • regards,
  • PS. additionally: check if you didn't throw off the AKG compass when soldering :-) - it also happens :-)

Hello tojaert,

Sorry for the late answer but I am very grateful for your kind and thorough help !

I tried compass, screen rotation and spirit level but none of them worked. To be exact : I just replaced the wifi/bluetooth antenna following this guide iPhone 6s Plus Wi-Fi/Bluetooth Antenna Replacement and did not do any soldering.

Do you think this might just be something I just forgot to plug back? Or would it be something else?

Best wishes for 2021 :)

Thank you very much !

hello KasDing,

yes, I read your post again and yeah, it's about the antenna ... :-) Sorry, I'm bothering you, and we're just talking about the antenna. It may not be a faulty antenna effect, but it can happen anyway. Was there a message like this before replacing the antenna? It happens that the plugs fasten incorrectly during assembly - check connections.

- regards,
