Samsung A71 water damage!

Hello I have a Samsung A71 water damaged, it will not come on, when I'm trying to turn it on its only vibrating, then vibrating every 5 min or so.

I try hard restart pressing down volume and power.

I try and replaced the charging board no change.

Can it be the battery or display ?

my phone is still powered up but touch screen doesnt work , will it dry out after a period of time?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@skengineering sure it will dry out. As it does so it will leave all kinds of minerals deposited by water etc. behind. This will then cause corrosion (or even short-circuits in the components) and lead to complete failure. So, if that is the end result you are expecting let it dry on it's own. If you are expecting to use it again, follow the advice given in the answer provided.

NicolausX you are not telling us what you did about the water damage not are you telling us if your computer still recognizes your phone etc.. For now I suggest that you stop continuing to try to charge, sync or otherwise use your phone. This potentially can make a bad situation worse. This may further damage your phone.

The next thing to do is to clean it. The very first step I would take is to disassemble your phone. Use something like this video to help you disassemble your phone. Take a careful and close look at all components and connectors. Truly assess the damage. Look for major corrosion, evaluate the pins in the connectors etc,. Take a look at all connectors as well as cable ends. You will have to remove all the EMI shields. If you do not remove the shields, you are not cleaning the board. Once you got the gross contamination cleaned, use 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and clean your parts some more. For a proper cleaning, use this guide. It was written for an Apple iPhone 3G but it is still pertinent to your phone as well. I can not stress the importance of a good cleaning enough, so do it over and over while replacing the alcohol after each cleaning. Do not use compressed air for the cleaning since that can drive liquid as well as corrosion particles into areas that will cause trouble later on. Also, you do not need to leave it to dry for a day. Isopropyl alcohol in the higher concentration will evaporate quickly and dissipate the water. The importance here is the cleaning. It would of course be best to get it professionally cleaned Do not forget to replace the battery. This is a must and not an option. It will fail if you do not take care of it now. After that, reassemble your phone and re-evaluate. For as long as you have not cleaned your board and replaced the battery, everything is just a guess. Keep in mind that water damage is the hardest to troubleshoot and to repair. It does not matter if is was exposed for 2 seconds or 2 hours, what matters is where the water (particulates) did the damage. After that you want to re-evaluate. With a new battery and a clean board your phone may stand a chance, and yes it can be the display that gives you the vibrating alert. IF nothing else you can also post some good pictures of your circuit board (both sides) so that we can see what you see. Adding images to an existing question

Thanks for a definite answer.

My first step after the phone end it up in the sink is to put it in a bag of rice, it stay there two days.

Then I open the back of the phone at 70 ‘ temperature an clean the board's with electric alcohol, after I seen no change I buy a new charging board off eBay because that board was most affected.

After that I give up because I try all I know has I'm just a hobby men in this domain.

The pc is not seeing it directly ! When connected in device manager show's up briefly for a jeffy.

However odin is recognizing it the moment it's plug in has device no : 6 instantly.

Regards.

I damaged my Galaxy a71 a few days ago. Remove the sim card tray and allow to dry for 48 hours (or more) under a fan, or preferably with silica gel packets. Make sure the phone is completely dry, and there is no fog in any of the cameras, after this you can attempt to reboot the phone, it may need to be plugged in for it to power on. This worked for me, however i am allowing the phone to dry under a fan for even longer after the ultrawide, and macro camera did not work, and the volume up button was malfunctioning. Personally i allowed it to dry for around 4 days before i attempted to power the phone back on.

Hi @aar0n ,

Water and electricity are not a good mix.

It is preferable to remove the battery as soon as possible as the impurities in the water (or any liquid except distilled water) causes corrosion and provides circuit paths that were not in the operating design of the phone and could further damage it. Then clean all affected parts with Isopropyl Alcohol 99%+ to remove all traces of water and corrosion.

If not done and it is just left to dry then corrosion problems can surface weeks or even months afterwards but by then it may be too late.

Even if the phone is switched off there is still power available on parts of the systemboard. The power button is not a power isolating button. Its function is to signal the OS what the user wants to happen.

Think of the phone as being in an extremely low power state when off and not that it is isolated from any power source,

Just check the screen connectors and if they are damaged change them or go for the screen.
