Hi,

Is the camera physically broken or just that it is not working?

If just not working have you checked the status of the webcam in Device Manager> Cameras > right click USB camera > Properties?

What is the full model number of the laptop?

@jayeff It seem physically broken, as the camera doesn't even show up in the Device Manager anymore. Even 'scan for hardware changes' doesn't bring up anything.

@King Randor

So nothing showed in Device Manager > View > Show hidden devices or Device manager > Other Devices (if listing shown) either, just in case the drivers were not installed properly?

Don't know the laptop but have you checked in BIOS?

With some other brand laptops when the USB "interface" (their terms not mine) is disabled it not only disables the USB ports but can also disable the webcam as well as sub categories under the setting. Usually found in BIOS menu > Security but may be under Advanced settings. Just another place to check

You didn't specify the full model number as perhaps the webcams may be different between the different Razer Blade 15 models and also how to get to it. Was looking on YouTube for Razer Blade 15 screen replacement videos to see how to get to the webcam and noticed the various models then

This is due to the FFC crack issue. The FFC connects the camera and the mic to the motherboard is folded at the bottom of the laptop. The room there is so tight that the FFC gets pressed and cracks at the folding point over time. Have no idea how to fix it since there aren’t replacement parts on the market. Even if there were, the same issue is gonna happen again over time. There should be considered a design flaw and Razer should extend their warranty to have it covered IMO.

Agreed. I've been researching this since mine broke ~2019 and this seems to be the consensus. Some redditors paid to ship theirs to Razer for warranty replacement but the replacements will inevitably have the same issue. I downloaded DroidCam and use it with my phone.

Seems like my camera is having a similar issue. In my research I’m finding this to be an issue across the board with the 2018 advanced blade models. Camera comes up as an unidentified USB interface. No amount of bios update, driver installs/reinstalls. seem to get it to work. Not sure if it is just a faulty camera module or if there is something wrong with the USB hub built into the laptop

Hi,

Check the "properties" of the camera listing in Device Manager to find the VID and PID information. (vendor and part)

Go to the listing you found for the camera in device manager and right click on the entry > Properties > Details > then in the Device description box select Hardware IDs to find the information. Not sure but it may also be shown as PCI/VEN and DEV which is the vendor and device, (same thing)

Once you have it then search online using the info only to find out who made it and the model number. Then go to the maker's webpage to hopefully find drivers for it.

Also check the power management tab to make sure that the power hasn't been "disabled" by the checkbox being ticked to allow the computer to turn off power to the device

It's unusual as Win 10 normally will install generic drivers to make it work so it may be a faulty unit.
