An upgrade of the Nintendo Game Boy Advance, the Advance SP was released, in North America, on March 23 2004 with a square structure and clam-shell design.

No sound on GBA SP AGS 101?

I found that a GBA SP AGS 101 that I’d bought online was having some issues charging due to some corrosion in the charging port. I’d read that distilled white vinegar is good for cleaning corrosion, so I soaked the port in vinegar and scrubbed it clean.

Now the charging port works! But I’ve run into another separate issue. Now the speaker has decided to quit working!

I tested the speaker in another GBA SP and it works just fine. I tried cleaning the contact points on both the speaker and the board with 99% IPA, but I haven’t had any luck. I can hear a very slight sort of *thunk* sound when I power the system on, so I’m led to believe that it doesn’t have anything to do with the speaker making contact with the board.

I don’t have the slightest clue what might have gone wrong. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

It’s fixed!

I popped the plastic cap off the volume slider on a whim and found that there was some vinegar lodged in there. I rinsed it out with some 99% isopropyl alcohol and bam, fixed. I guess I wasn’t as careful as I thought I was when I soaked the charging port. Oh well, problem solved!

@blockyboxguy depends on how badly you soaked your charging board and the circuit board etc. Vinegar is a conductor so you may have created a short. Post some good pictures of your board etc., with your QUESTION. After that clean your circuit board with +90% isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush. Adding images to an existing question
