Replaced Digitizer, battery charges to 35%, turns off if unplugged

I recently replaced my digitizer, power button cable and wireless antenna on my iPad2 (Let’s just say removing the cracked screen did not go as perfectly as I had hoped). I connected the charger to turn on the device before taping the screen (battery was dead and I wanted to test the wifi and other buttons before sealing). The iPad will only turn on if I hold even pressure on the screen. Once it is on, it works beautifully. However, the battery only charges to 35% and the device immediately turns off once unplugged from the charger. Thoughts? This is my first attempt at any sort of repair, so I am not an expert. Keep that in mind when answering. Thanks
