The iOpener is an insulated, heat-retaining bag that can be heated in a microwave and used to transfer heat to the adhesive along the edge of an iPad or similar device.

Is this a good alternative to an iOpener?

The kit I just ordered to change the battery to my XS Max doesn’t come with an iOpener. I can’t find it on Amazon by itself but there’s one on here by itself that I may buy. I was just wondering if I heated up a wet paper towel in the microwave, placed the warm paper towel in a zip lock bag and sealed it would that be a good alternative to an iOpener? (Or even just a warm regular towel inside a zip lock bag)

Frankly I would just use a hair dryer or heat gun (variable temp).

A wet paper towel is risky! The water could sneak in! The other factor is it doesn’t have enough heat mass.

My hair dryer does an amazing job at high! It burns me.

Sounds like you need a cooler hair drier ;-}

For difficult things to heat up safely, I wrap therm in a clean cup towel, turn my toaster oven on to bake and sit them on top for a couple of hours.
