Microphone static/not working after back glass repair

I just had my back glass lazered and replaced. Since then i’m experiencing microphone issues. I’m wondering if the tech didn’t damage a microphone with heat. I would love for someone to help me out and tell me which mic it is. All mics sound normal when I use videos.

What works

Voice calls (I think, although a few have complained)

Video both front and back (i swear they all sound normal, but maybe i’m crazy)

What doesn’t work

Siri

text-to-speech

Voice memo (sounds like straight static)

Facetime and Speakerphone (sounds like static as well)

I’ve done it all when it comes to software. Even did a complete wipe and reset. It’s got to be a hardware issue I think, Any help on this would be great. I just need to know which microphone to replace.

Siri and text to speak would be the top mic which is on the proximity sensor flex cable.

@imicrosoldering , Thanks! Would replacing the proximity sensor cable effect face ID?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

Yes but if that fixes the static you could get someone to transfer the sensor. At least you will know the static has gone.

I would address it with them. I’m not sure what their policy is on stuff such as this. There are numerous mics throughout these phones and I believe the top one in the screen is the one that has suffered damage. You can replace that flex to at least test if that’s the issue, but in order to maintain FaceID you’ll need to have someone transfer the sensors and such to the new assembly. If not, you’ll get a message stating that FaceID could not activate as those parts are tied to that specific motherboard.

Same exact thing happening to me. I’m so mad. I paid 140$ to fix my phone and it’s even more broke now.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@abbylee1519 the repair shop has a duty to fix it. If they caused the problem it's up to them to fix it. Either that or they need to give you a new phone. I repair mobiles for a living and if I damage something then I fix it free of charge because it was my fault. If the shop is reputable they should sort it. If they won't they're cowboys.

Thanks Nigel, that makes me feel better. I’m on the phone waiting for a representative to speak to.
