The Nintendo Switch is a handheld game console that can be played on the TV via a docking station, or on the go. Released March 3rd, 2017.

Horizontal lines, and black screen with sound

Block Image

Recently my Switches screen started acting up out of nowhere. When I power it on or wake it the screen is covered in multicolored horizontal lines with a sort of grid pattern, after about 1-3 seconds the screen will go black with backlighting still present. The digitizer seems to work perfectly as well, and the Switch functions normally when docked. This problem seems to have appeared out of the blue with no forewarning. It seems to have occurred in the span of about 5-10 minutes. I plugged my switch into the charger and left the room for a moment, upon returning the screen was completely covered in the aforementioned lines. I’m not sure if it’s an issue with the lcd or possibly an issue with the motherboard. I opened the switch up and there doesn’t seem to be any issue with the ribbon cables or connection. Any help would be very very much appreciated.

Hello did you solve your problem with the switch screen? I'm having the same issue with my switch lite and it came out if nowhere.

Same just happened to me yesterday without me dropping it or anything happened out of the blue just like that

I have this exact same problem, it came out of nowhere while someone was playing on it today. The screen also seems pixelated in some way, I'm gonna try to do something with the LCD flex cable.

I reseated the LCD flex cable for the display carefully and that seemed to fix the problem for me. It only occured when I unplugged the display cable from a previous repair.

If reseating the display connector does not help the display most likely needs to be replaced:

Thanks for the advice I’ll give it a shot, not sure how the cable could have been dislodged, possibly overheating?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

The cable shouldn't go loose by itself as it is locked into place with a zif-flap connector. Worst case it would be the screen going faulty and needing to be replaced.
