Laptop not coming on, responding to charging.

Hi my laptop suddenly went off when I plugged in the charger as it was booting up and since then hasn't come back on yet regardless of all I tried. I've checked the charger is fine battery is alright I've remove any static remaining but nothing. Are there any other ways a available for this specific problem?

Hi,

Disconnect the charger from the laptop (if connected) and remove the main battery pack and the RTC battery which is on the motherboard and then press and hold the laptop Power button for 30 seconds. This dissipates any remaining charge and also restores the BIOS to default in case it has become corrupted preventing a normal start. Remember the orientation of the RTC battery for when you go to replace it, usually it is +ve on top.

Then reinsert the RTC battery, re-assemble the laptop, insert the main battery and connect the charger and try to turn it on and check if this has resolved the problem.

Here’s the hardware maintenance manual that shows the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the systemboard on p.50. You don’t have to remove the board, just access it enough to remove the RTC battery.

Here’s an image of the board where the coin cell RTC battery can be seen in the bottom left corner of the board.

When you have the battery out, measure the battery’s voltage. If it is <2.6V DC replace it. Usually the battery is a CR2032 Lithium coin cell battery which is available most everywhere. The type number is stamped on the battery if you wish to verify the battery model number. The battery is a non rechargeable battery and has a life of ~5 to 7 years
