after resetting my computer my ethernet adapter is missing. -RESOLVED

my friend who is adept in repairing laptops took my pc apart today to clean out dust and add new thermal paste to my cpu and gpu. upon finishing we reinstalled windows and upon loading up my computer my ethernet adapter is completely gone. i have no idea how to get it back. i still have my wifi adapter but no ethernet adapter.

Update (07/11/2020)

Upon looking i realized that my friend accidentally disabled the ONBOARD NIC and that's what disabled my Ethernet adapter upon re-enabling it. we are all good. Thank you for your assistance and time.

Have you tried reinstalling the ethernet device drivers from Dell?

I believe this model has a daughterboard for the ethernet and USB ports on the left hand side of the laptop. Make sure that it is plugged in with it’s daughterboard flex cable on both ends. One side may not be connected which will cause this problem if this is the case.

Hi @benjamen50 ,

Looking at the service manual p.62 they're all on the systemboard but maybe that's just the image shown ;-)

Hi,

Is there anything listed under Network Adapters or "Other Devices" (if shown) or Device Manager > View > Show hidden devices for the Realtek PCIe Ethernet controller (LAN) network adapter?

To get to Device Manager, right click on the Windows Start button on the left side of the Taskbar and select the Device Manager link

Try using the Troubleshooter.

Go to Control Panel > Troubleshooting > Network and Internet > Connect to the Internet and see if that resolves the problem

To get to Control Panel, type control panel in the search box on the left side of the Taskbar and click on the app.
