The GameCube is Nintendo's fourth console gaming system. Repair is simple and requires only common tools.

My GameCube is struggling to play games/function

So recently a friend of mine purchased a gamecube for nostalgia purposes and paid a pretty penny to get it. However as of right now it is having some major issues. 1. The disc reader seems to be struggling to read discs sometimes, if not at all. 2. If it does read the disc, it completely crashes within five minutes. Got any ideas on what this could mean or if its even fixable?

There are a couple of things you can check.

  1. Is the sensor for the disk reader dirty or scratched up?
  2. It may be crashing due to thermal issues, typically with older consoles they are filled to the brim with dirt and dust, try spraying into the sides with compressed air in short bursts and see if you can get some of the dust out

1. Yes, the sensor seemed to be a bit dirty so I did clean it and it looked basically out of the factory

2. I did look at the components and it seemed that it had to be cleaned I used a q- tip and Alcohol. It seems to be working a lot better but once in a while it still does it.

Thanks for the tips definitely was helpful at getting this working at 100%
