Broken screen can't boot from external monitor
This macbook doesn’t have OS installed. I can’t boot it from an external monitor. I unplugged the video connector and boot it with an HDMI adapter but it’s not working.

Are you trying to boot into recovery mode in order to install an OS?
Perhaps try putting it in Target disk mode (Hold down T when starting), and install OS via thunderbolt cable from another machine, and see if you can the use external display

Can you explain a bit more on what is broken with the screen. Disconnecting it won't really alter things, in fact it makes it more complex! Post a pic or two Adding images to an existing question
