Face ID not working: Higher/Lower

Hi! I have an iphone xs max with face id not working. I bought it second hand with a already cracked screen.

Here is what I know:

  • face id fails to detect a face during the setup process. Keeps sending the two messages: move iphone a little lower/higher
  • Animoji works perfectly
  • Flood illuminator also works
  • Proximity sensor and autobrightness are functionally
  • Attention works
  • Front camera works (without any blur)
  • Back camera and portrait mode works
  • Phone has liquid indicator is not red.
  • Phone is up to date (iOS 13.5.1)

It a possibility that the front camera or the earpiece speaker/proximity sensor cable is damaged or been changed. They are paired to the motherboard and if one is not original face Id won't work.
