Is there any indication that the mic is working?? (I would be irresponsible to not mention that settings on the device your using it on could potentially make you not be heard) I'm assuming that's not the case. The most significant thing is that you aren't hearing the Microphone acknowledging it's activation. If you inspect the headphone specifically near the plastic piece connecting the mic maybe you notice that it seems to be opening much less controlled than it once did. if so... STOP! if you headphones are within warranty, contact them and tell them the mic isn't working.
I say this because, I had similar issues, I ended up having to disassemble the entire left side, finding that when the mic opens a piece of plastic is responsible for sliding over a piece on a circuit board which gives the beep, as it turns on the mic, when you close the mic the plastic slides gently past that same piece letting it know the mic is off. On my case there was a screw that wasn't holding the mic correctly so I kept using it, by the time I opened it and attempted to fix it the loosened position of the mic had put excess stress on the wiring. Best advice, don't open it and get the warranty.
After I reassembled it myoc was open all the time, it lasted for a while but like I said too much stress on very small wiring connections. I am working on it no, my mic has finally completely detached and then the speakers stopped working. So I'm going to be trying to fix it. I hope this gave you some info.
