Why does it drop the wifi connection

Try using the WiFi with the laptop placed as close as possible to the WiFi router. If the connection remains stable then perhaps there is a problem with the WLAN (WiFi) antenna connection to the WLAN module in the laptop.

Here’s the maintenance and service guide for the laptop.

Go to p.28 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the WLAN module. This shows how to access the antennas so that their connections can be inspected.

My school chromebooks do this too, they are really old, and crappy, but as someone else said, you are gonna need a new wlan card. The chromebook manufacturers often cut the quality of these cards to lower price.
