The March 2015 update of Apple's 13" MacBook Air features fifth generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, resulting in slightly increased performance and battery life.

PPM002 Error after trying to update Sierra

Hello everybody.

I have tried to update my Macbook to Sierra as it was running a bit slot lately (the laptop is used mainly for movies, nothing too serious). After I got the error saying that it wasn’t possible to install the software, I tried to reinstall the OS from recovery mode. After a couple of times I got the PPM002 Error. Besides this, it only starts if I press and hold the power button until the Start Sound finishes. I know that this error has to do with the build in memory but is there anything that can solve it or do I have to replace the logicboard?

thank yoou.

Ouch! Not good your logic board needs repairs. One of the RAM chips has a bad solder joint or just a bad chip. The other option is just replace it.

You can try using my EFI Utility: [macOS-Disable-RAM-Areas](macOS-Disable-RAM-Areas). It works by disabling defective memory areas in your Mac’s RAM, which may help your system boot and function properly again without needing to replace the logic board. By identifying and bypassing faulty memory regions before macOS boots, it prevents the system from trying to access them. Please note that I’ve only tested this on a MacBook Pro Late 2013.

Update 2024:
Can comfirm it also works on MacBook Pro 2019 :-)

Often times I find the issue is a cold solder joint. Using a rework hot air station and some flux I’ve recovered quite a few boards. The root issue is the way Apple solders with a wave soldering vat the built-up of impurities on the top contaminate the boards joints if they don’t clean the vat often enough (skim).
